Lenten reflection for you

Father Grant has selected for Lenten reflection From Fear to Love by Henri J.M. Nouwen. The St. Thaddeus Bookstore is providing these as a gift to the parish. You will find copies in the narthex at each service.

St Thaddeus Home and Garden Tour

Mark your calendars, Saturday, March 27, 10-5pm. Tickets $25, available after March 1st.

The Home and Garden Tour Committee will meet next Monday, January 25, at 12 noon in the small parlor. All are welcome. Please bring a sandwich, beverages will be provided.

Immediately following, at approximately 1:30 pm, there will be a workshop to sew linen items for the Heritage Market. This is open to anyone who likes to sew. Please bring your own sewing kit, we will supply the linen. Contact us for further information.

Calling all linen ladies

There will be a meeting and workshop on Monday, February 8th, 3:30 PM in the small parlor. This is for everyone, new volunteers, the “I’ve been doing it forever”, or just anyone who might be interested. Veterans, we especially need your input and expertise. Please try to make it. Any questions, please contact us. See you there.

Recycle your palms

It is time to recycle your palms from last year. Please place them in the basket in the Office for making ashes for Ash Wednesday.

February outreach

The St Thaddeus soup kitchen will be featured at outreach Sunday, February 21, and throughout the month. Special donations to outreach and the loose offering on the 21st will be for the soup kitchen. Please mark your checks accordingly.

The soup kitchen serves about 150 meals each Saturday morning. This number includes meals delivered to St. Thaddeus shut-ins and take-homes for those who cannot get out. All parishioners are encouraged to come to the large parlor on a Saturday morning, observe, and roll up the sleeves to help. Help is needed, physical, financial and prayer.

Church study group announcements

  • The Wednesday Morning Study Group started Wednesday January 6th – they began a new study: Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesu by Anne Spangler and Louis Tverberg. If you are interested in joining this study please contact us. All are welcome.
  • Drop-in Sunday School Class is studying Living the Questions in Luke. Marianne Swearingen and Kathie Fowler are the facilitators. Please join us.
  • The Sunday Bible class continues its march through the Bible. The next 3 chapters of Isaiah will certainly test your memory of geo-political events. Isaiah’s advice and prophesy are some of the most beautiful and meaningful words in the Bible.

Next Ultreya in March

The February Ultreya scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday has been postponed until March 7 at St. Thaddeus.

Brass vases missing

The small low brass bases with liners have disappeared. If you have any information on these vases, please contact the church office or just return them to the sacristy.

Celebrate Aiken history

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to serve 1 1/2 hour shifts as tour guides for St. Thaddeus. St. Thaddeus is one of the 13 sites on a self-guided tour of historic places downtown. This tour is part of the “Celebrate Aiken!” 175th Anniversary. If you are interested in being part of this wonderful opportunity to show off our beautiful church, please contact Ellie for more information and details and she will add you to the list of volunteers. It should be a fun day for all.

ECW annual convention in York

All women and clergy are invited to worship and celebrate at the 88th Annual Convention of ECW. Gillaine Warne will speak about our World Mission Project – the Family Assistance Program which is part of the Partners in Agriculture – Zanmi Agrikol – program in Cange, Haiti. Joyce Sanders from York Place will speak about our Diocesan Mission Project which is to support the treatment of the children through assistance to their Scholarship Fund. The Convention will be held on February 13 at York Place, York, SC.

Free income tax preparation available from AARP

Free Income tax preparation for low and middle income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older will be available to all Aiken County residents beginning February 1 through April 15, 2010 at the Aiken Public Library and the Nancy Carson Library in North Augusta. Free preparation will be available at the Aiken Public Library beginning Monday, February 1 through Friday from 10-2. Appointments may be made by calling the library at 279-5767. Please bring copies of your Year 2008 Federal and State tax returns and current year W-2’s, 1099’s and other relevant materials needed to prepare Year 2009 returns. NEW FOR 2009! Taxpayers who use the Standard Deduction can add up to $1,000 to their standard deduction for real estate taxes paid in 2009. If you purchased a new motor vehicle, the sales tax can be added to the Standard Deduction. Please bring receipts. Electronic filing requires the taxpayer to bring their Social Security card and picture ID and social security cards for all dependents if we did not prepare your return the previous year.
